Archives & Collections

For the past four decades, Old Berwick Historical Society members have collected historic maps, papers, photos and objects pertaining to the history of the area around South Berwick, home of 19th century author Sarah Orne Jewett (1849-1909). Today the Counting House Museum is a repository for over 8000 documents, photographs and historical curiosities covering a wide spectrum of community life.

Volunteers maintain the collection as a research center and make the archives available for study. Photocopies can be made at 25 cents per page, with photos scanned for $10 for non-publication use. Because of limited volunteer coverage, an appointment is strongly recommended. Please write info@obhs.net.
