John Hull was also America’s first mintmaster, having produced the oak tree shilling and pine tree shilling. He became the wealthiest man in America. His daughter married Samuel Sewall, who became one of the judges at the Salem Witch trials. Hull’s first apprentice was Jeremiah Dummer, the first American-born silversmith. Jeremiah’s son, William, established Governor Dummer Academy in Newbury, Mass.
